Construction work on the runway at the bamberger special landing field will be underway in the coming weeks. This creates the preconditions for the landing aids and weather systems. These are necessary so that in the future it will be possible to take off and land safely using instrument flight procedures (IFR) even in poor visibility conditions. On thursday, 12. December, will take place at 7 p.M. In the "fliecher" guesthouse the next citizens’ information event will take place, at which the city, the public utility company and the aero club will provide information about the current developments.
In august the aviation authority of northern bavaria granted the aero-club bamberg as operator of the special landing field the permission for the introduction of instrument flight procedures. The permission is linked to structural measures to increase the safety of the breitenau. Among other things, the lighting in the apron and along the runway will be extended. Furthermore, approach aids and weather systems will be installed and an emergency power supply will be set up. Even re-markings are made. The construction work is being carried out by the bamberg biologist dr. Beate bugla and should be completed in the spring of 2020.
